He impressed in the 3-0 against Aris with an assist that drew comparisons to Lionel Messi and then scored 2 goals against Panathinaikos with one assist and scored another against Olympiacos F.C. His performances led Otto Rehhagel to call him to the Greece National Team and he is currently a target for major clubs in Greece. On 22 March 2009, Koutsianikoulis scored a fantastic goal against Skoda Xanthi, he nicely controlled the ball and whent past a defender before sloting the ball behind the net.
